Second Place in Burgmann Food Festival!

Swedish Chef and KermitI won second place in the Burgmann College Food Festival for my Chocolate Chip Cookies!

Sams Chocolate Chip Cookies

(First prize went to Spicy Chicken Wings.)

For second place I won a tea set for two.

Second Place Prize

Don’t ask me, apparently there was a Mother’s Day leftover sale. First place prize was a a large plate?! The third place prize was a bottle of wine. Maybe I should have made the cookies just a little bit worse ;-)

They give out prizes now!? I totally left college too early…

(And congratulations by the way! I think you should share the recipe with the interwebs…)

  2. Sam Says:

Yes, fantastic prizes, like plates and tea sets. You definitely left too early ;-)

You want me to just give away my secret, my awarding winning recipe, so that others can just create cheap knock offs, and I have to come up with another fantastic show stopping confection for the next festival?!

    Ok, here it is:

You actually searched for ‘award winning cookies’ to find that recipe, did you not?

At least they lived up to their name.

  4. Sam Says:

I’ve made these a few times now and they always turn out great (if you follow the recipe exactly).
They have over 3,000 five star reviews on Allrecipes.com, so they were a fairly safe bet.

  5. phdstudent Says:

You might be able to handle a cookie, but can you master the ANZAC biscuit?

  6. wm Says:

Congrats on both the tea set and the marathon (bigger congratulations on the marathon). I’m afraid I haven’t checked your blog in a while and I missed out on your spring news so I’m a little late…

  7. Sam Says:

    Hi Westerly,

    Thanks!
In the end I was able to trade the tea set for the big plate. It’s not particularly exciting enough to blog about though.

I have to admit I haven’t been keeping up with little Sofia’s blog either, but it’s now added to my google rss feed reader.

Sofia’s getting big! Looks like she’s walking around and making a fine mess of her food :-)

Do you get to be a stay at home Mom? Or do you have to go back to work?

  8. cati Says:

I did not know you were such a talented cooker. We missed the cookies party at MLE!!

  9. Sam Says:

    Thanks Cati!
Haha, I was a pretty terrible chef until I got to Australia and became vegetarian. Then I was forced to go beyond spaghetti with tuna :-)
Actually, my secret is allrecipies.com, any recipe 500+ positive reviews has always turned out great.

  10. Maryam Says:

Yes Sam, I agree, you should have made the cookies slighly worse, coz you traded your prize with the first prize later anyway! ;-)

By the way, I love the picture of the chef on the top left of this page… It’s so funny! Do you usually look like this while cooking?

I still can’t believe they actually gave away this beautiful tea set! It must have cost them a fortune!!! ;-)

  11. Kunnal Says:

Ah, so this is what the “break up” teaset looks like eh. Need to get meselves one of these!
